Student-Academician Meetings Held

The "Student-Academician Meetings" program, organized in collaboration with the Diyanet Youth Center and the Önder Youth Community, was held at Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 12:00 PM in the AKİMER Conference Hall.

Prof. Dr. İrfan Aycan, Dean of the Faculty of Theology at Ankara University and a faculty member of the Department of Islamic History, attended as a speaker. In his speech titled “Understanding Islamic History Correctly,” Prof. Dr. Aycan provided examples of events from the Prophet’s era through the Umayyad period, emphasizing that these events should be evaluated within their historical and political context, without religious interpretations. He stressed that detaching events from their context and interpreting them solely through a religious lens distorts historical reality.

The program, which attracted great interest from our faculty members and students, continued with questions from the students. At the end of the event, four books signed by Prof. Dr. Aycan were given to students in a raffle.

Following the program, our faculty dean, Prof. Dr. Bilal Gökkır, presented a plaque to Prof. Dr. Aycan and hosted him in his office.
